Awesome March 30, 2010 philo (N.Cal) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Big, strong, easy to install. I have the Skybox 16 on a Subaru Outback and it takes up 3/4 of the width of the factory racks but it doesn`t look or feel too big. If you need space for bikes or kayaks get the narrow Rocketbox. Buying note: REI has it for the same price plus you get 20% off if you buy before April 30th using their 20%off One Item Dividend coupon which all members get. Shipping is free to your local REI store if it is not in stock. Plus Yakima has a $40 rebate going right now so bottom line price is around $300!
The right cargo box August 9, 2010 John Coleman (Fairfax, VA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Fits my Jeep Grand Cherokee perfectly; doesn't hang over the front window nor interfere with the tail gate opening. Just what I wanted in that it's wider and shorter than a lot of other cargo boxes and handles my suitcases just fine. Easy to mount/dismount and hang on the Yakima storage rack when not in use. Rainproof.
very good August 10, 2009 C. KEEFE very good. How to install on the roof racks is a unclear, but once you know how to do it all set. Nice product.
Better Then Expected March 27, 2010 Little Goat Services LLC (Hill City, SD) After a month long rock climbing and mountain biking trip from South Dakota to SoCal, I took our box off the car when we got home today, and have to admit that it worked great, and the design was very easy to use. It was cold and snowy when we got the box and I was out there setting up the rack system and dialing everything in, and so I cursed it a little, but now that we have it set up, its a snap to use. There are several little things that don't make a lot of engineering sense to me, but they seem to work well none the less. Our old Thule box lasted for over a decade and logged thousands and thousands of overloaded miles on all types of roads.
If this new Yakima last that long, I'll be very pleased. I especially like the ease of opening and closing the box. One lock, one motion. It swallows up our loaded rock climbing packs, spare gear, and ropes with ease, and the closing mechanism seems to do a great job of keeping the straps, strings and stuff clear, such that it does not hinder the operation. The huge bulky cam locks, needed to be tightened once on our trip as the whole box started moving around on the rack, but after that, things settled in and we had no problems. The size of the cams inside the box seem to waste a lot of space. It seems a much smaller piece of aluminum could replace this bulky pieces of plastic, but I'm sure the company feels it's worth the trade off to make a few extra $$ on the product rather then make it as good as it could be. Regardless, I would buy it again and recommend it to my friends.
While I know its not fair to compare our old box with a 10+ year newer model, I will say that the newer design is better.

Outstanding space saver May 3, 2010 Anthony J. Green (Sydney, Australia) This is simply a great product. As the product description says, if you want somewhere to stash your camping gear other than around your kids' ears, then this is the right solution for you. Easy install for us as we have Yakima bars already, and it's actually quieter with the box on our roof than just the bars alone. And more secure storage than our previous solution which was to pack our sleeping bags etc into two Perception Swifty kayaks on our roof !!
