50 Years of Dispossession This is the Arab point of view about the events from 1948-1998 from Al-Ahram (Egypt).
Palestinians 50 years on Hisham Sharabi (Palestinian academic and professor at Georgetown University) discusses Zionism, the differences between the PLO leadership that emerged under Arafat versus Georg Habash and the PFLP. This article was written in May 1998 - before the Second Intifada started - but its thoughtful approach and candid crticisms (of all sides) make it worth reading.
openDemocracy openDemocracy takes a non-partisan but highly informed view, with writers from differing perspectives and sides writing in multi-part format.
Research Guide Robin Miller has put together this exceptional set of information on the conflict in the Middle East. She lives in New Orleans. Her website is an example of individual activism at its best.

Al-Ahram coverage of second Intifada Many articles detailing different aspects of the second Intifada. Too much to process overall but good for looking up specific topics or getting a feeling of how moderate Arabs perceive the conflict.

Zionism

Zionism 101 Ann Lesch wrote this report on Zionism for the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. It has a section on Historical Background, followed by British Mandate, Zionist Movement, Practical Zionism, Policies Toward the Palestinians, and Conclusion.
The Origin of the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict This account of Zionism as a force in the evolution of the Jewish state was written by the American group Jews for Justice in the Middle East.

Peace Agreements Link is under "Peace Agreements." Especially strong on the Oslo documents, but other historic documents too. Not good for current diplomatic materials.
Baker Institute (Rice Univ) Baker Institute is part of Rice University, and is named after former Secretary of State, James Baker. Edward Djerejian, former long-term diplomat to the Middle East and an expert on the region, is Director. They have streaming video, texts, and papers available for download with excellent discussion of topical interests such as energy, diplomatic, political, economic, and social issues. Well worth the time exploring.
Historical Documents An extensive listing and full text of documents relating to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict from 1915 on.
Mideast Security and Policy Studies From the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies (BESA). This research institute is based in Bar-Ilan University (Israel) and concentrates of Israeli security and foreign policy issues.

FMEP was started in 1979 and is based in Washington. It promotes peace and security for both peoples.

There's a very interesting debate between Dr. Salman Abu Sitta and Rabbi Michael Lerner which is well worth reading, as well as a lot of other good materials.

Residency and Refugee Rights Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights (Badil) is a Bethlehem-based NGO started in 1998 and acts as an advocate for Refugee rights, with a legal unit as well as resource and campaign units.
Restitution and Repatriation The Council for Palestinian Restitution and Repatriation is a Washington based group.
United Nations Refugees UNRWA has been the UN agency on the forefront of the conflict since 1948. There are photo histories along with statistical and written profiles of refugees, their living conditions, and other connected issues.
Debate on Right to Return The article mentioned above under Al-Awda. Michel Lerner is the Rabbi who publishes Tikkun in San Francisco. He is much attacked by Jews in the United States for his anti-Zionist views. Abu Sitta is a former member of the Palestinian National Council and current president of the Palestinian Land Society, based in London.

Jerusalem

Israel-Palestine Center for Research and Information IPCRI was founded in Jerusalem in 1988 and is a joint Palestinian-Israeli public policy think-tank, working to try and resolve the conflict. Under download publications are discussions of Jerusalem and how it might be effectively part of a peace agreement.
American Committee on Jerusalem An Arab-American organization to promote its position on Jerusalem both to the American public and policy-makers.

House demolitions By Amnesty International in Le Monde diplomatique
Israelis against house demolitions ICAHD is a non-violent, direct-action group originally established to oppose and resist Israeli demolition of Palestinian houses in the Occupied Territories.
Rule of Law LAW is a Palestinian Human Rights organisation based in Jerusalem. LAW was founded in 1990 by a group of Palestinian lawyers to promote human rights and further the principles of the rule of law, and to defend Palestinian rights in accordance with international human rights law and United Nations declarations. It is dedicated to preserving human rights through legal advocacy.
Democracy Deals with building a democracy in Palestine (Grassroots).
Economic and Social Rights Water rights, economic issues, human rights, social rights, and legal issues in Palestine, Iraq, as well as other countries. Based in Brooklyn.
Environmental and Economic Activism Environmental degradation and legal aspects of peace and water rights are just some of the topics in papers available from the Applied Research Institute in Jerusalem. Militarization of Israeli Society

Israel: Is the Military in Charge? Article by Tanya Reinhart, an Israeli academic and journalist. She details the power of the IDF and intelligence communities in Israel, and their relationships with the United States. Tanya Reinhart is professor of linguistics and cultural studies at Tel Aviv University and the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Her political writings appear regularly in the newspaper Yediot Aharonot.



The Trial of Daily Life

Voices of Jerusalem This Jerusalem-based site includes remarkable eyewitness stories from real people who are living the Intifada on a daily basis. They include young people, mothers, the elderly. This is the real thing, neither filtered nor analyzed in any way.
A Gaza Diary A street-level look at life in Gaza by Chris Hedges. Hedges, a divinity-school-graduate turned war reporter works for the New York Times. This article appeared in the October, 2001 issue of Harpers.
